Project Reveal: The Oakland Craftsman Bathroom

With its original wood paneling and molding, our clients’ Oakland Craftsman home had tons of warmth and charm in the living areas, but a very dysfunctional and unattractive bathroom. The outdated space was cramped, with a low and awkward vanity, basic and dated ivory tiles, and vinyl flooring. The bathtub took up too much room in the small space and wasn’t a great showering experience for this couple without children in the home.

The Modern Vic presented colorful designs to our bold clients, who wanted a bathroom with loads of personality that was historically appropriate for their Craftsman home, but also included modern features like heated flooring.

We crafted a plan that included an arched and enclosed, tiled shower for a luxurious and classic bathing experience. We played with patterns and color influenced by Craftsman-era design, using handmade tiles in a matte finish and a mosaic pattern on the floor for visual intrigue.

We worked with MB Carpentry to craft our custom-designed vanity, sized perfectly to maximize storage and countertop area. The rich, warm wood vanity carries the charm and wood details from the living area into the bathroom for a seamless and cohesive design style throughout the home.

Unlacquered brass plumbing fixtures and hardware brightened up the space with vintage charm.

Our clients said, “We love everything about our new bathroom!!”  We do too!
