A Bit More Modern, A Little Less Vic

This month we are closing out some projects that are more modern than our typical historic home projects. Since our passion is creating authentic homes that are personalized to our clients, every project’s aesthetic is intentionally unique.

The first project we’re highlighting this month is our beautiful Mid-Century Miraloma home, where we designed with an Organic-Modern aesthetic to create a warm and inviting look that is our clients’ dream–and also fits with the streamlined Mid-Century Modern character of the home.

We used warm alder cabinetry, creamy whites, and natural stone throughout the home, in addition to handmade “perfectly imperfect” ceramics to work with the natural elements in the design. Black and brass metals accent the natural design features with a little bling and modern flair, creating lots of curves and shine to complement our organic materials.

A full reveal of this project will be coming soon, as we’re now in the furnishing and decorating stages of this renovation!

Next up, we are closing out a project in the Richmond District of San Francisco in a beautiful Marina-Style home built in the 1920s.

Our client’s love for Scandinavian design, pastel colors, and light woods give this home a modern vibe, while coordinating well with the original 1920s features of the home. We designed the broken arch in the entryway with the wood-block poppy print wallpaper to coordinate with the original arched windows in the home. It will feature a bench for visitors for a beautiful welcoming foyer.

We combined the hand-painted fish wall covering in the powder room with a historic wainscoting for a blend of past and present. The bathrooms feature handmade tiles in modern layouts for our clients’ love of mid-century design without fighting with the original features of the home.

Our clients are moving back this month and we’re thrilled for them to settle back into their newly renovated home.

Design Tip: Picking Your Palette

The two projects featured in this blog post have very different color palettes, and both are a reflection of our client’s unique aesthetic taste.

Our Miraloma client’s favorite color is green and they wanted it to be featured prominently in the design. Perfect for our organic modern aesthetic, the green earth tone was a wonderful accent to the neutral mid-tone wood, creams, and black accents that dominate the home. We featured green through soapstone countertops in the bathroom, green marble in the primary bath, the striking fern wallpaper in the powder room, and the handmade tile in the media room bar.

Our Richmond project homeowner loves soft pastel colors and a Mid Century flair. The soft mint green on the kitchen island and warm red oak cabinets paired well with a pop of pink in the lighting, which we repeated in the powder room. This California family wanted poppies to welcome guests to their home, so we coupled this bold accent wallpaper with soft browns and creams. We kept the bathrooms pastel, featuring blues and greens for a soothing spa-like feeling.

With a little inspiration from our clients’, we love to play with color to create a personalized design that feels cohesive throughout the home. Give us a favorite color and we will build you a palette!
