The Fashion Parlour
We designed The Fashion Parlour for a sweet, yet very bold fashionista with a rebellious side. Our client dreamed of a dressing room with ample storage and beautiful, personalized style for her newly purchased 1947 single family home in San Francisco’s Sunnyside neighborhood.
With a love for vintage furnishings and decor with a quirky edge, she wanted to turn her second bedroom into a fashion haven. Above all, the dressing room had to be functional with ample storage for an extensive fashion collection, with both display and concealed storage. One of our favorite features is the custom library ladder for reaching the upper cubbies. It’s an incredibly functional component for storage access, but also adds tons of personality and style.
We chose materials and finishes to tell the story of a glamorous parlour: brass fixtures, luxurious rose-colored wallpapers, high-gloss plum paint and moss green accents. Moody lighting and the serpent wallpaper that adorns the ceiling gives the space a little bit of edge, while the silky wall pale pink wallcovering provides a softening effect. The custom mohair vanity chair and calacatta viola marble vanity top continue our story of bespoke drama and glamor. We designed the custom window seat with contrasting fabrics and inset bolsters for a comfortable view of the beautiful garden.

From the client
Working with Sarah and The Modern Vic team on my custom closet was such a fun and rewarding experience.
Sarah really took the time to understand how I live day to day and what would make the space feel both beautiful and easy to use. The final design feels polished and elevated, with a boutique-like luxury that makes getting ready each day feel special.
It’s hard to choose a favorite detail because everything feels thoughtfully done. The finishes are gorgeous, the layout just works, and the library ladder is a standout feature - it adds personality while making the higher areas easy to reach and perfectly suited to my height.
Even when small delays or mishaps came up, they were acknowledged immediately and handled quickly, which made the entire process feel smooth and stress-free. The team also offered great options along the way that kept everything feeling high-end without going overboard.
Now, seeing all my things beautifully arranged brings me a little spark of joy every day. I’m thrilled with how it turned out and would absolutely recommend Sarah and The Modern Vic team if you want something functional, elevated, and truly special.
